Starting a business in Alsip?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and You can expect to pay around $1,102 for rent here. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $208,700, which is actually reasonable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Southern places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much wild but now it's decent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Highland for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is average

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
