Altadena in the winter -how bad?

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $129,123 in Altadena. It's a a smaller city city with about 41,921 people. The median home value here is around $1,073,500, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely challenging and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
