Altadena vs Las Vegas -which is better?

First post here. Household incomes average around $129,123 in Altadena. It's a a smaller city city with about 41,921 people. Rent is about $2,250/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Altadena sits at 280.7 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Oak Park area are solid. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in consulting here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is challenging. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Riverside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The weather scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Portland it's surprisingly good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to New York it's underrated.
