First time home buyer in Altadena

Random thought, I'm retired and Rent is about $2,250/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $1,073,500 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
