How is Altadena for outdoor activities?

OK so Been living here since 2019. You can expect to pay around $2,250 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Has anyone dealt with this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The food scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Old Town for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 56, moved here 14 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Eastside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The safety situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
