Unpopular opinion about Altamont

Longtime lurker here, I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 19,844, Altamont is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 19,844 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I work in tech here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is tough. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 10 years. Moved from Minneapolis for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Dating scene is rough. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Chicago it's better than expected.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is improving in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
