Random thought, I'm a remote worker and It's a a small town city with about 20,592 people. Median household income is $87,123, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Altoona sits at 119.3 per 100K. Rent is about $1,203/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much reasonable but now it's improving.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
