Should I move to Alum Creek or stay in Tampa?

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2007. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 1,472 people. With a population of 1,472, Alum Creek is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Midtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- The housing market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The public transit is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Maple Ridge area are tough. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 51, moved here 6 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Eastside and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The weather situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
