Americus in the winter -how bad?

Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 24.3%, which is higher than I expected. The median home value here is around $113,500, which is actually reasonable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I overthinking this?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The housing market scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
