Day-to-day life in Ames, IA

Alright, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts?

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Midtown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much manageable but now it's average.
