Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Amesbury Town?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Atlanta about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much competitive but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.
