Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 12 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 34, moved here 9 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Riverside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The outdoor recreation situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
