Hey folks, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 5.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $98,152 in Anchorage. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Sunset area are tough. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
