I've been here for 9 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Andalusia sits at 99.3 per 100K. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 2,376 people. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I've lived in The Heights for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Atlanta about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
