Curious what people think. I'm a 35-year-old lawyer and Homes are going for about $251,600 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,248 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Does this match your experience? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I work in finance here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is excellent. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 4 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely better than expected and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 35, moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 10 years. Moved from Nashville for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Can feel isolated. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Fairview for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The job market scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..
