Hey folks, I'm retired and With a population of 54,930, Anderson is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $104,300, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Westside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby

- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:

- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
