What surprised you most about Anderson?

Longtime lurker here, Military spouse here. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,563 people. Poverty rate is 16.4%, which is higher than I expected. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Is this normal for Anderson? Cheers. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 14 years. Moved from Austin for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Can feel isolated. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Moved here from San Francisco about 15 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to public transit but Happy to answer more specific questions..
