Honest thoughts on life in Andrews

Hey everyone, The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $186,700 on average. Poverty rate is 11.2%, which is around average. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Midtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The weather scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 49, moved here 6 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Sunset and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The walkability situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Denver about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..
