Does this match your experience? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Midtown for 4 years. Moved from Raleigh for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Dating scene is rough. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I work in manufacturing here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is pretty good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The cultural scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
