First time home buyer in Ann Arbor

Hey everyone, Been living here since 2018. You can expect to pay around $1,552 for rent here. Homes are going for about $435,100 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
