Rent in Annandale getting crazy

OK so Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $112,872 in Annandale. You can expect to pay around $1,932 for rent here. Rent is about $1,932/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Annandale sits at 130.5 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Homelessness issues downtown
What neighborhoods would you suggest? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 3 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I work in engineering here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is challenging. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I've lived in East for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The public transit scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
