Hey folks, I'm a 54-year-old teacher and Poverty rate is 8.4%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Antioch sits at 575.3 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 11 years. Moved from Seattle for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited shopping options. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's improving.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Tampa about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a lawyer and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
