The good and bad of living in Antioch
Longtime lurker here, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $2,241/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $607,400, which is pretty steep. With a population of 116K, Antioch is a mid-size city. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
