First post here. I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 8.3%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? The city has invested a lot in new development. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
