Top 5 things I love about Apalachin

Homes are going for about $160,800 on average. Median household income is $79,919, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 2,076, Apalachin is a small town. Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Lots of new development
- Active local events

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
Thoughts? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Portland about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
