Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 25, moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Old Town and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Property taxes are high
3. The food scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..
