Random thought, Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
