I'm originally from Las Vegas and With a population of 55,550, Arcadia is a smaller city. Median household income is $116,142, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $2,118 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I work in finance here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is improving. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's solid.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 8 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Minneapolis about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
