Cost of living reality check -Arlington Heights

Been meaning to ask this. With a population of 76,220, Arlington Heights is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $403,200 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in government. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's improving.
