How much do you pay for rent in Arlington Heights?
Hey everyone, What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in South area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 9 years. Moved from Austin for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Far from beaches/mountains. And housing market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
