Just moved here 1 months ago and Homes are going for about $249,700 on average. Poverty rate is 13.7%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Arlington Heights sits at 124.5 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,193 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience? The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much established but now it's solid.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
