Hey, Crime rate is something to consider — Arlington sits at 182.7 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Baltimore it's pretty good.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
