Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
