Been meaning to ask this. I'm single, late 50s, and It's a a small town city with about 14,051 people. Rent is about $2,121/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Appreciate any input. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Westside area are improving. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
