Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm originally from New York and Rent is about $1,679/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 15,239 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Southern places. I love the pace of life here.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The weather is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
