Hi all, Been living here since 2014. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Asbury Park sits at 1,159.6 per 100K. Rent is about $1,679/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much developing but now it's underrated.

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Miami about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Chicago about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..
