Hey everyone, Household incomes average around $67,221 in Asheville. Anyone in a similar situation?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Meadowbrook area are excellent. Kids love it here.

I've lived in East for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- The public transit scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community vibe is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.
