Relocating to Asheville, NC -pros and cons?

Hello, Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $67,221, which feels about average for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The food scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
