Raising a family in Ashland -thoughts?

First post here. I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 0.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Ashland sits at 48.7 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The walkability is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in South for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is improving

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in North for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- The job market scene is average

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..
