First time home buyer in Ashland

Hi all, We have two kids and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $573,700 on average. The median home value here is around $573,700, which is pretty steep. With a population of 21,343, Ashland is a small town. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've lived in The Heights for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The school system scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
