Hello, Just moved here 14 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 7,884 people. Poverty rate is 11.9%, which is around average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- The housing market scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The walkability is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
