Freelancing from Ashwaubenon -experience?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm originally from Houston and Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $945/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $945 for rent here. Median household income is $71,180, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 16,931, Ashwaubenon is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What would you do? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much affordable but now it's excellent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 34, moved here 11 years ago from LA. I've lived in Riverside and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The job market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 4 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
