Housing market in Astor right now

Poverty rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 1,507 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Worth the trade-offs?

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 15 years. Moved from Minneapolis for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is decent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 11 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Houston it's challenging.
