I'm single, late 40s, and Rent is about $1,135/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 8 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
