Working in Astoria -salaries realistic?

Been living here since 2008. It's a a small town city with about 10,162 people. The median home value here is around $422,400, which is pretty steep. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
