Is Atascadero good for remote workers?

Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,735 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? Cheers. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a social worker and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
