Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Atchison? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Springfield area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
