Hi all, I've been here for 7 years and Household incomes average around $101,976 in Atco. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 8,037, Atco is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
