Best areas to explore in Athens-Clarke County?

I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $271,800 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,162 for rent here. It's a a mid-size city city with about 127K people. Crime rate is something to consider — Athens-Clarke County sits at 306.2 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Old Town for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The cultural scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
