Commute times in Athens -how bad?

Hi all, I work in hospitality and The median home value here is around $242,200, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $37,059, which feels on the lower side for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Athens sits at 64.7 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Highland for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The safety scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
